How to add Access Groups in PremiSys

Access groups offer the ability to assign time zones to doors and elevators, ensuring precise control over access permissions. When a cardholder is assigned to an access group, their access is granted only during the active time zones associated with that group. Moreover, for elevator access groups, it is possible to define distinct time zones for each floor of the elevator.

Once the doors and elevators are configured, they can be grouped into access groups based on the desired access restrictions. This allows for efficient management and streamlined administration of access control policies. By organizing the access points into logical groups, administrators can easily apply consistent time zone settings across multiple doors and elevators, simplifying the overall access control management process.

To create an access group, follow these step-by-step instructions:

1. Go to the menu bar and click on "Tasks."

2. Select "Hardware Configuration" and navigate to the "Globals" tab.

3. Expand the "Access groups" folder by right-clicking on it and selecting "Add group." This opens the Access Group window, which displays all doors and elevators accessible for viewing and editing.

Note:  The "None Assigned" indicates that no time zone is assigned to the door/elevator for this access group.  If a time zone is assigned to a door/elevator and you change the selection to "None As signed" the access group will NOT have access to that door/elevator.

4. Enter a short, descriptive name for the access group in the "Name" field. Optionally, provide a more detailed description in the "Description" field.

5. (Optional) Choose activation and deactivation dates: If you want the access group to be immediately active without an expiration date, leave both checkboxes unchecked. To set future activation or deactivation dates, follow these guidelines:

  • Activation Date: Select the date and time when the access group should begin allowing access.
  • Deactivation Date: Select the date and time when the access group should stop allowing access. Note: Do not select a deactivation date without also selecting an activation date. Additionally, avoid choosing a deactivation date that is earlier than the activation date.

6. Click the drop-down arrow in the "Time Zone" column for a specific door or elevator. This displays a drop-down list of available time zones in your PremiSys system. You can create a new time zone by right-clicking and selecting the option.

Search tip: If you have numerous doors and/or elevators, you can use the "Search" box above the Time Zone column to find them by name.

7. Select the desired time zone to assign to the door or elevator. You can choose "None Assigned" to indicate no access for the door or elevator.

8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 to assign time zones to other doors and elevators within this access group.

9. Click "Ok" to save the Access Group. It should now appear in the right-hand pane of the Hardware Configuration window.

Note: Remember to update any existing access groups that should include the newly added doors when introducing new doors to the system.

10. For assigning access to elevators by floor, follow a similar process. Search for the elevator and select "Assign By Floor."

11. Right-click on "Assign By Floor" and choose "Edit."

12. Choose the time zone to apply to each floor for this access group.

13. Ensure that a time zone is chosen for each floor. If no time zone applies, select "Never Active."

You must choose a time zone for each floor. If there is no time zone you must select a *Never Active* time zone.

14. Click "OK" to save your changes.

It's important to note that you should follow the guidelines and pay attention to warnings during the process to ensure accurate configuration of the access groups.
