Planning Access Groups in PremiSys
Planning Access Groups in PremiSys
Think about every door entry process you envision for every type of employee, visitor or contractor. Discuss this with your security, facilities and management teams to determine your door access strategy. When should some doors unlock? For doors that are always in card mode (require a card to unlock) which individuals/roles should gain access and when? Run through all possible scenarios.
STEP 1
Start by making a list of all doors in your system. For each door, describe the types/roles of people who should access the door and under what circumstances.
Sample Chart – Analyze door access policies for each door
Door Name | Type of Person | Circumstance(s) |
1.) Front Door | Visitors | No card needed M-F, 9-5; excluding holidays |
Basic Employees | Card access M-F, 7-8; including holidays
Temporary Employees | Card access M-F, 7-8; excluding holidays
Security | Card access 24/7; including holidays
Facility Managers | Card access 24/7; including holidays
2. IT Room | IT staff | Card access 24/7; including holidays |
Facility Managers | Card access 24/7; including holidays
3. Stairwell door | Basic Employees | Card access M-F, 7-8; including holidays |
Temporary Employees | Card access M-F, 7-8; excluding holidays
Facility Managers | Card access 24/7; including holidays
4. Parking garage | All Employees | Card access 24/7 |
STEP 2
From the column containing “Type of person,” create a list of each unique role, i.e. group of people identified. You should start to see patterns. If Sales and Marketing teams need the same doors for the same times, combine them into one group. If permanent and temporary employees need the same doors but at different times, keep them as separate groups.
Sample Chart – Identify unique groups
Group (Role) | Doors | Times |
Basic Employees | Front door, stairwell door | M-F, 7-8; including holidays |
Parking garage | 24/7 | |
Facility Managers | All doors | Card access 24/7; including holidays |
Visitors | Front door | Free access M-F, 9-5; excluding holidays |
These groups/roles become your access group names. For each unique time period in the “Times” column you will create a time zone. (Free access periods for visitors become time zones assigned directly to visitor doors.)
